Dog in Scottish Highlands
The Request
This edit was not a public request on Reddit, but a requester for whom I had previously done a Cat Painting, who now wanted me to do their dog as well. They requested that the dog be in a Scottish Highlands landscape, and gave me a reference painting, but asked that it be a bit more vibrant match the the style of the cat painting I had done.
The Results
I started by creating a landscape that resembled the one in her reference, but for color I added some heather flowers and a brighter blue sky to contrast with the stormcloud rolling in from the east, and for more visual interest, I added a stone castle to a stone castle.
Other Versions
Concerned that the dog was too small in the first painting because of the scale of the reference image I was using, I decided to do a custom landscape as well, positioning the dog on a rocky outcrop high in the hills overlooking a valley similar to the first painting, with a castle on the water replacing the purple heather with some pink moss campion, and adding in a colorful sunset.
