Font Match - Kublai Khan

The Request

Not really photoshoppy, but for those who like a challenge: Super Super SUPER longshot. Having a super hard time finding this font, but im looking to get a tattoo in this font style from my favourite band but having a hard time finding the creator for design, or one similar to this. I need a picture that says “Let The Rough End Drag” in this font. Its from one of their songs, and has a pretty heavy meaning to me. Thanks!

The Results

More often than not, text images used by bands, movies and companies that are distinctive like this are not true fonts, but instead are custom drawn. When I tried searching for this font, I found dozens of posts from other people who were also searching for the font, and no one had found anything similar yet.

The only solution in these cases is to also hand draw your own image, mimicking the original style. I think this one turned out pretty good, and I am glad, since the requester planned to permanently tattoo it on his body!

For anyone who is wondering, the term “Let the rough end drag” is a southern colloquialism which is a reminder to make the best of a bad situation, or to just do your best when you don’t have anyone to help you. In a literal sense, if you are alone, and need to carry/move a large piece of wood that is too much for you to lift fully on your own, then you should drag it along the ground, holding the nicest looking end of the wood, and dragging the end that is not as nice, since it is already in worse shape anyway. Since one of my other creative hobbies happens to be woodworking, I am quite familiar with this! I cannot tell you how many 4×8 pieces of plywood I have dragged across my yard and into my house this way! A little bit of trimming or sanding and it is almost like new again.

A week later, he texted me a photo of his tattoo. I love it when requesters follow up with the results of a project!
